Educational Format
Weekly Classes
Each course will meet for 50 minutes on 12 Thursday evenings. The
first ten minutes will be allotted for the discussion of the assigned
readings. The remaining 40 minutes will be for lecture and discussion.
Since time is limited, no tests or quizzes will be given during
classes. Mid-term exams will be take-home projects consisting of
3 - 8 essay questions. One week will be allotted for the completion
of the exam. Final exams will also be take-home projects consisting
of 3 - 8 essay questions. Approximately 10 days will be allowed
for students to turn in exams to teacher (the school schedule will
specify the deadline for work to be turned in to the office).
Each course will have a textbook that will involve the students
in approximately 50 pages of reading each week. Teachers will give
to students each week a reading guide of 5—10 questions that
students must complete for the next class period. This will help
the students to focus on the main ideas of the text and provide
a system of accountability for reading assignments.
Grading will be as follows:
Weekly Reading Assignments 30 percent
Mid-Term Exam 30 percent
Final Exam 30 percent
Class Participation 10 percent
Saturday Seminars
These courses will be offered from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with
an hour for lunch. A text will be assigned for each course. Students
will have the remainder of the semester (usually 2 months) to write
a 3-page summary on the seminar and a 15-page Interaction Paper
on the assigned book.
Grading will be as follows:
Text Interaction Paper 60 percent
Summary Paper 30 percent
Class Participation 10 percent
The Three-Year Cycle of Course Offerings
This schedule remains the same and starts over again each 3 years.
This format gives the students ability to plan their academic program
and predict upcoming classes. If a student decides not to take a
course when it is offered, he or she will know when it will be offered
again.
